Marcus Halloran is the practice's senior statistician and handles the quantitative half of a review, from choosing an effect measure to fitting the pooled model and drawing the forest and funnel plots. His doctorate is in biostatistics, and he has fitted fixed-effect, random-effects, and network meta-analysis models for reviews ranging from a handful of trials to several hundred comparisons.
He is most useful when a synthesis is harder than it first looks: heterogeneity that will not settle, sparse or zero-event data, indirect comparisons across a treatment network, or a reviewer asking for a sensitivity analysis that was not pre-specified. He writes the meta-analysis and statistics articles here and builds the calculators behind them.
